Video Glasses / Head Mounted Displays
Microdisplays are been used in head mounted displays (HMDs) for virtual reality and for augmented reality applications as well as in systems where the vido/image information needs to be separated from the overall system. In addition to that usage 2D/3D video glasses become more and more popular driven by the increasing video content of the internet.
While these HMDs have been usually very bulky in the past the higher integration in modern LCos and especially OLED microdisplays will enable much smaller and lighter HMDs to be developed in the future, like the one below wich only weights 80grams!
These HMDs usually are stand-alone or wireless connected and thus run on batteries. Here is where OLED microdisplays, because of their much higher efficiency and thus much lower power consumption will enable not only much smaller and lighter designs but also will enable HMDs, which run much, much longer on one battery charge.
